Installation space and recess requirements
The appliance is designed for refrigerating, freezing and storing food and making ice. It is intended for installation in a recess with correctly measured dimensions and a level floor capable of bearing the appliance plus an additional food load (range not stated for this specific model). The unit depth for overlay door panel installation is 635 mm, and 635 mm plus the thickness of the custom panel for inset panels. The appliance depth is 610 mm, allowing installation in standard 610 mm European units or deeper 635 mm cut-outs.
For inset installation, recess dimensions are H 2029 mm, W 451 mm. For overlay installation, recess dimensions are H 2032 mm (plus panel overlap at the top) and W 457 mm (plus panel overlap on both sides). Panel thickness must be between 16 mm and 30 mm, and panel weight must not exceed 25 kg. Installations directly behind the appliance are not possible.
Levelling and anti-tipping device
The adjustable feet are fully retracted for the minimum appliance height. After positioning the appliance in the recess, it must be raised from the front using the adjustable feet until it contacts the anti-tipping device at the base, which must be secured to the floor or wall. To achieve the minimal plinth panel height of 102 mm, the adjustable feet must be raised by 6–8 mm. If a higher plinth panel is required, the adjustable feet can be raised by a maximum of 19 mm.
Ventilation and plinth panel
The appliance is ventilated entirely via the plinth panel. The door panels must close at least 102 mm above the floor and the grille in the plinth panel must not be obstructed. Spacers supplied with the appliance must be fitted to separate warm outgoing air from fresh incoming air. Optional 102 mm high stainless steel plinth panels are available in widths matching single units and Side-by-Side combinations from 45.7 cm to 182.8 cm.
Door spacing and opening angles
To prevent the doors and handles from colliding with adjoining walls or kitchen elements, a minimum spacing of 76 mm must be allowed for a door opening limited to 90°. Door opening angle is 115° ex-works and can be limited to 90° using the supplied door opening limiter inserted into the hinge. The minimum permitted gap between adjacent door panels is 3 mm.
Side-by-Side installation options
The freezer may be installed as a stand-alone appliance or Side-by-Side with other Liebherr Monolith refrigerators, freezers or wine cabinets. A Side-by-Side set is required if the spacing between appliances is less than 102 mm or if units are installed in separate carcasses with a dividing wall less than 102 mm thick. For combinations of more than two units, different configurations are possible; however, some configurations may lead to door collisions if minimum distances are not observed.
Side-by-Side sets include a sidewall heater, metal brackets, screws and decorative trim to cover the gap (approx. 6–8 mm) between appliances. The sidewall heater increases energy consumption by 0.4 kWh/24 h for two units and 0.8 kWh/24 h for three units.
Electrical safety
The appliance must be operated on alternating current with permitted voltage and frequency for the relevant country. Power sockets must be earthed, electrically protected and not located behind the appliance; they must remain easily accessible. A separate circuit is recommended to avoid defrosting due to failures caused by other appliances.
It must not be connected to unearthed sockets, extension cables, multi-sockets or inverters. Failure to observe these instructions may result in overheating, fire, severe injury or death.
Water connection and IceMaker use
Models fitted with an IceMaker must be connected to a water supply with pressure between 2.8 and 6.2 bar using only the supplied hose. A shut-off valve must be installed between the hose and mains water supply and must not be located behind the appliance. Connection must be performed by a trained and licensed plumber, and the water must comply with drinking water regulations in the region of use.
The IceMaker is intended solely to produce ice cubes in normal household quantities using suitable water. The water filter, located in the appliance base, must be replaced regularly; an InfinitySwipe alarm indicates when replacement is due. All repairs and work on the IceMaker must only be undertaken by customer service or other trained individuals.
Ambient temperature and operation
The appliance is designed for operation within the SN–T climate class, suitable for ambient temperatures from 10 °C to 43 °C. It must not be operated outside these temperature ranges. Before switching on, the appliance should stand in the installation location for one hour to allow fluids in the coolant and lubrication system to distribute evenly.
Optional accessories
Optional accessories for this model include flat brushed aluminium handles, square brushed aluminium handles, round stainless steel handles, stainless steel door and plinth panels, Side-by-Side sets, a door hinge exchange set, water filter, ice cube scoop and ice cube tongs. Stainless steel plinth panels in 45.7 cm width (102 mm high) are specified for model EGN 9171.
