Installation space requirements
The floor must be capable of bearing the weight of the appliance plus an additional food load (net capacity range given for the Monolith series as approx. min. 218 kg to max. 544 kg). The floor should be level, and the appliance must be supported or levelled at floor level to keep ventilation openings clear. Recess dimensions at the installation location must be correctly measured and the power socket positioned correctly.
To transport the Monolith to the installation location, door heights along the transport route with the appliance packed and tilted must be considered. The appliance should only be installed next to Liebherr refrigerators, freezers or wine cabinets that are designed for Side-by-Side setup using the appropriate Side-by-Side set where spacing between units is less than 102 mm.
Installation behind the appliance is not possible. The appliance depth is 610 mm, allowing installation in standard European 610 mm units and deeper 635 mm cut-outs.
Recess and door panel requirements
For secure installation, the top and carcass walls must line up flush with the appliance at a depth of at least 102 mm from the outside edge and be at least 16 mm thick. Because part of the recess is visible when the door is opened, the inside should match the unit surface at the top and sides and have a minimum depth of 76 mm, with designed carcass finishes recommended.
Monolith appliances are designed for flush installation in units with a depth of 635 mm using stainless steel or customer-specific panels. For inset installation, the inset door panel dimensions must be used. For other options, door spacing requirements must be observed to determine panel dimensions. The maximum permitted panel weight for EKB 9271 is 30 kg, and the panel thickness must be between 16 mm and 30 mm. Other wood materials within this thickness can be used provided the maximum panel weight is not exceeded.
Monolith appliances are supplied with decorative trim to cover the gap between the appliance and fitted-unit side walls. Door panels must close at least 102 mm above the floor to ensure correct plinth ventilation. The minimum permitted gap between panels is 3 mm.
Adjustable feet and appliance height
The adjustable feet are fully retracted for the minimum height stated. The appliance height is raised by turning the adjustable feet from the front after positioning in the recess so it comes into contact with the anti-tipping device. To achieve the minimal plinth panel height of 102 mm, the adjustable feet must be raised by 6 to 8 mm. For higher plinth panels the feet can be raised by up to 19 mm.
Ventilation requirements
Monolith appliances are ventilated entirely via the plinth panel. The grille in the plinth panel must not be obstructed. Spacers supplied with the appliance must be fitted to separate warm outgoing air from fresh incoming air. Liebherr offers a 102 mm high stainless steel plinth panel in widths from 45.7 cm to 182.8 cm according to model and Side-by-Side combinations; for EKB 9271 the 61.0 cm plinth panel (9901 496) is specified. The plinth panel depth position is variable and assembled using a pre-assembled adhesive joint.
Door spacing and opening angles
Monolith appliances must be installed so that doors, including handles, do not collide with adjoining cupboards, worktops, walls or other elements. The door opening angle is set to 115 ° as supplied and can be limited to 90 ° by inserting a stable peg into the hinge (90 ° door opening limiter is included). To prevent collisions when opening to 90 °, a minimum spacing of 76 mm must be allowed between the appliance and adjoining elements.
For Side-by-Side installations with separate carcasses, if the dividing wall is less than 102 mm, a Side-by-Side set is required. To ensure handles do not collide when doors open in the same direction, a minimum spacing of 102 mm between units is necessary; if doors open towards the centre and a 90 ° limiter is used, a minimum spacing of 154 mm is required.
Overlay and inset panel installations have different behaviour at 90 ° and 115 ° opening; panel thickness and overlap must be considered to avoid collisions. For overlay panels, typical carcass framing of 19 mm and panel overlaps on the frame are described, with an example of 8 mm overlap (17 mm where the appliance is at the end of the run).
Side-by-Side installation options
Monolith units can be installed individually, Side-by-Side in a single fitted unit, Side-by-Side in separate units, or in combinations of three units. A Side-by-Side set is required if spacing between appliances is less than 102 mm. For three-unit configurations, options include connecting three units with two Side-by-Side sets (with potential door collisions), or using a carcass side (minimum 16 mm) between the third unit and a connected pair. For back-to-back door positioning, a minimum spacing of 154 mm is required.
Electrical safety
The appliance must only be operated with alternating current at the permitted voltage and frequency for the relevant country. Power sockets must be earthed, electrically protected according to regulations, not located behind the appliance and must remain easily accessible to allow disconnection from the mains if needed. A separate circuit is recommended to avoid food spoilage due to power failures caused by other appliances.
It must not be connected to unearthed sockets. Extension cables, multi-sockets or inverters must not be used, as these can lead to overheating, fire hazards or issues with non-sinusoidal voltage. The refrigerant circuit has been checked for tightness and the appliance meets applicable safety regulations.
Water connection, InfinitySpring and IceMaker (Monolith series)
Monolith appliances equipped with InfinitySpring or IceMaker must be connected to a water supply with pressure between 2.8 and 6.2 bar, using only the supply hose delivered with the appliance. The water must comply with regional drinking water regulations. Where water hardness is high, a water softener is recommended; if solids such as sand are present, a filter must also be used.
A shut-off valve must be installed between the hose and mains water supply and must not be positioned behind the appliance. Water connection work must not be carried out while the appliance is connected to an electrical socket. The IceMaker is designed solely for producing ice cubes in normal household quantities using suitable water. All work on InfinitySpring or IceMaker must be carried out by customer service or trained individuals; the manufacturer accepts no responsibility for damage due to devices or pipes between the solenoid valve and water supply.
Appliances with InfinitySpring or IceMaker include a water filter located in the front section of the appliance base; this must be replaced regularly. The InfinitySwipe control system provides an alarm reminder when replacement is due.
Ambient temperature and operation
The appliances are intended for refrigerating, freezing and storing food and for making ice (where equipped). Monolith refrigerators and freezers have climate class SN-T with an ambient temperature range of 10 °C to 43 °C. Appliances must not be operated outside the specified ambient temperature ranges.
Secure mounting and anti-tipping
To prevent the appliance from tipping after installation, the anti-tipping device at the base must be fitted and secured to the floor or wall. The appliance should be left to stand for one hour in the installation location before switching on so that fluids in the coolant and lubrication system can distribute evenly.
