Installation space and recess requirements
The floor must be level and capable of bearing the weight of the appliance plus food. Recess dimensions must be measured correctly and the power socket positioned so it remains easily accessible and is not located directly behind the appliance. Monolith appliances are designed for flush installation in units with a depth of 635 mm, while the appliance depth is 610 mm, allowing installation in standard European 610 mm or deeper cut-outs.
Top and carcass walls should line up flush with the appliance at a depth of at least 102 mm from the outside edge and be at least 16 mm thick. Because the recess is partially visible when the door is opened, matching interior finishes are recommended. Customer-specific panels up to 30 mm thick may be used, provided the maximum panel weight of 30 kg is not exceeded.
Door panels and plinth ventilation
Door panels for inset installation have dimensions H = 2029 mm and W = 603 mm; overlay installation uses H = 2032 mm and W = 610 mm, plus any panel overlap. Door panel thickness must be between 16 mm and 30 mm. The adjustable feet are fully retracted at the minimum height and can be raised from the front to bring the appliance into contact with the anti-tipping device and to achieve the desired plinth panel height.
Ventilation is entirely via the plinth panel. Door panels must close at least 102 mm above the floor and the plinth grille must remain unobstructed. Spacers supplied with the appliance must be fitted to separate warm outgoing air from fresh incoming air. Liebherr offers 102 mm high stainless steel plinth panels in widths from 45.7 cm to 182.8 cm as optional accessories.
Side-by-Side and positioning options
The EKB 9271 can be installed individually with hinge on the left or right, or Side-by-Side with other Liebherr refrigerators, freezers or wine cabinets. For Side-by-Side installations with spacing less than 102 mm, a Side-by-Side set is required. A minimum spacing of 76 mm is needed to prevent doors and handles from colliding with adjacent elements when using a 90° opening limiter.
When combining more than two units, different configurations are possible, including use of carcass sides or larger spacings (102 mm or 154 mm) to avoid handle collisions, particularly when doors open towards the centre.
Door spacing and opening angle
The factory door opening angle is 115° and can be limited to 90° with the supplied door opening limiter, which is inserted into the hinge. A minimum gap of 3 mm between door panels must be maintained. To avoid damage, installation should ensure that doors and handles do not bump into adjoining walls or cabinetry; if necessary, reduce panel thickness (if above 19 mm), reposition adjacent elements or fit stoppers.
Electrical safety and ambient temperature
The appliance must operate on alternating current within the permitted voltage and frequency. Power sockets must be earthed, electrically protected, not located behind the appliance and easily accessible. Use of extension cables, multi-sockets or inverters is not permitted due to risks of overheating, fire and electric shock. A separate circuit is recommended to avoid unintended switch-off by other devices.
The climate class SN–T allows operation between 10 °C and 43 °C ambient temperature. The appliance should not be operated outside these ranges. Refrigerant circuits are factory-checked for tightness and the appliance complies with applicable safety regulations.
Water connection (InfinitySpring and IceMaker)
Models fitted with InfinitySpring (integrated water dispenser) or IceMaker must be connected to a water supply with pressure between 2.8 and 6.2 bar, using only the supplied hose. Although the EKB 9271 does not have an integrated water dispenser, compatible accessories for water filters and FreshAir filters are available. A shut-off valve must be installed in an accessible position. Water quality must meet local drinking water regulations and additional filtration or softening may be necessary depending on hardness and solids content.
All work on InfinitySpring or IceMaker components must be carried out by trained personnel. The manufacturer accepts no responsibility for devices or pipework installed between the solenoid valve and the mains supply. Appliances with InfinitySpring or IceMaker feature a water filter in the front base section, with replacement intervals indicated via an InfinitySwipe alarm.
Secure mounting and anti-tipping
An anti-tipping device positioned at the base of the appliance must be secured to the floor or wall to prevent the unit from tipping. After positioning in the recess, the appliance is raised using the adjustable feet from the front until it contacts the anti-tipping device. To reach a minimal plinth panel height of 102 mm, the feet must be raised by 6–8 mm; they can be raised by up to 19 mm for higher plinth panels.
After transport, the appliance should stand for one hour in the installation location before switching on, so that fluids in the coolant and lubrication system can distribute evenly.
