Installation space and recess requirements
The floor must be capable of bearing the weight of the appliance plus approximately 218 kg to 544 kg of food, depending on model net capacity. The surface must be level, even and made of a hard, rigid material at the same height as the rest of the room. The appliance must be underlaid or levelled to floor level so that ventilation openings remain clear. Recess dimensions must be correctly measured and the power socket located in the correct position. Appliance height including packaging and pallet is 2285 mm for Monolith transport.
When planning the recess, the top and carcass walls must line up flush with the appliance at a depth of at least 102 mm from the outside edge and be at least 16 mm thick. As the unit recess is partially visible when the door is opened, the inside should match the unit surface at the top and sides with a minimum depth of 76 mm. Monolith appliances are designed for flush installation in units with a depth of 635 mm and an appliance depth of 610 mm, enabling installation in standard European 610 mm deep units or deeper 635 mm cut-outs.
Installations behind the appliance are not possible. The Monolith scope of supply includes a decorative trim to cover gaps between the appliance and side walls of the fitted unit.
The appliance should be left to stand for one hour in the installation location before switching on, so that fluids in the coolant and lubrication system are evenly distributed.
Door panels and accessories
Door panels may be inset or overlay. For inset installation, dimensions are H1 = 1255 mm, H2 = 768 mm, HS = 6 mm and W = 908 mm. For overlay installation, H1 = 1258 mm (plus top overlap), H2 = 768 mm, HS = 6 mm and W = 914 mm (plus side overlaps). Panel thickness must be between 16 mm* and 25 mm, with maximum panel weights of 25 kg for panel 1 and 15 kg for panel 2. When using fronts thinner than 16 mm, shorter screws than those provided must be used. For customer-specific panels, the maximum permitted panel weight must not be exceeded.
Optional accessories include a handle, stainless steel panel, stainless steel base covers and a Side-by-Side set. The supplied decorative trim covers gaps with adjacent cabinetry.
Ventilation and plinth panel
Monolith appliances are ventilated entirely via the plinth panel. Door panels must close at least 102 mm above the floor and the plinth grill must not be obstructed. Wall spacers/air separators supplied with the appliance must be fitted to separate warm outgoing air from fresh incoming air. Liebherr offers an optional 102 mm high stainless steel plinth panel in widths matching Monolith models and Side-by-Side combinations from 45.7 cm to 182.8 cm. The plinth panel position depth is variable and assembled by an adhesive joint pre-assembled on the appliance.
Installation options and Side-by-Side combinations
Monolith appliances can be installed as stand-alone units or Side-by-Side. When sizing a fitted unit, the thickness of the door panel and handle must be considered. To prevent doors and handles from colliding with adjoining elements, a minimum spacing of 76 mm is required where door opening is limited to 90°. For Side-by-Side installation in the same fitted unit with spacing less than 102 mm, a separately available Side-by-Side set is required. For Side-by-Side in separate units, if the dividing wall is thinner than 102 mm, a Side-by-Side set is also needed. For back-to-back door positioning opening to the centre, a minimum spacing of 154 mm is required when using the 90° door opening limiter.
For combinations of three units, options include using two Side-by-Side sets or a carcass side at least 16 mm thick between the third unit and the connected pair. In various configurations, minimum distances of 102 mm or 154 mm are necessary to prevent door and handle collisions.
Door spacing requirements
It is essential that the appliance is installed so that doors and handles do not bump into adjoining cupboards, work surfaces, walls or other kitchen elements. A 90° door opening limiter is included and can be installed if the door might bump into adjacent items. The door opening angle is set to 115° at the factory but can be limited to 90° by inserting a stable peg into the hinge.
For overlay door panel installation with example 25 mm panel thickness and 19 mm carcass framing, panel overlap on the frame is 8 mm (or 17 mm at the end of a run). For inset panel installation with example 25 mm panels, the minimum permitted gap between panels is 4 mm.
Water connection, InfinitySpring and IceMaker
Monolith appliances fitted with InfinitySpring or IceMaker must be connected to a water supply with pressure between 2.8 and 6.2 bar. Only the supply hose delivered with the appliance may be used. A shut-off valve must be installed between the hose line and mains water supply and must not be positioned behind the appliance. Water quality must comply with local drinking water regulations. The IceMaker is solely for producing ice cubes in normal household quantities using suitable water.
All devices and systems supplying the appliance with water must meet applicable regional provisions. Where water hardness is high, a water softener is recommended, and a filter should be used if solids such as sand are present. Appliances with InfinitySpring or IceMaker have a water filter located in the front section of the appliance base; it must be replaced regularly. An InfinitySwipe alarm reminds users when the water filter needs replacing. Repairs and work on InfinitySpring or IceMaker must only be undertaken by customer service employees or other trained individuals.
Electrical safety
The appliance must be operated using alternating current and the permitted voltage and frequency for the country must be observed. Power sockets must be earthed, electrically protected and not located behind the appliance, and must be easily accessible for disconnection. A separate circuit is recommended to avoid defrosting or food spoilage due to failures caused by other appliances.
There is a risk of fatal electric shock if the appliance is connected to unearthed power sockets. The appliance must not be connected via extension cables, multi-sockets or inverters due to risks of overheating, fire and imperfect sine wave voltage. Water connection work must not be carried out while the appliance is connected to the electrical socket.
Ambient temperatures and climate class
The appliance is intended for refrigerating, freezing and storing food and for making ice (where equipped), and is designed for operation within ambient temperatures specified by the climate class SN–T. For SN–T appliances, ambient temperatures must be between 10 °C and 43 °C. The appliance should not be operated outside these ranges.
Secure mounting
To prevent tipping after installation, the anti-tipping device positioned at the base of the appliance must be secured to the floor or wall. Information on secure mounting is provided in the installation instructions.
