Correct installation and ventilation are essential for proper functioning, cooling performance, energy consumption and lifespan. The heat generated at the condenser fins on the back of the fridge must be transferred to the ambient air through sufficient airflow.

Basic positioning

• The refrigerator must be level in both directions.
• Leave at least 20 mm clearance between the cooling unit/back and the furniture wall.
• For RH series, maintain at least 20 mm (approx. 1 in) clearance at the back, sides and top as indicated.
• Place the fridge 10 mm inside the furniture door when built in.
• Do not place the fridge in direct sunlight or next to heating radiators, windows or curtains.
• The mains plug/socket must remain freely accessible after installation.

Ventilation openings

• The fridge needs at least a 200 cm² free air inlet for cool air to enter.
• Provide at least a 200 cm² free air outlet for warm air to be released into the ambient air.
• For RH minibars, the free ventilation space for incoming air should be at least 200 cm², and for outgoing air at least 200 cm².
• The air inlet should be positioned below the unit and the air outlet above, creating a chimney-like airflow. Side ventilation must be avoided.
• Ventilation grills, if used, must have openings of at least 200 cm² each.
• The ventilation duct must measure at least 105 mm by the width of the refrigerator.
• Air passing through the ventilation duct must not be preheated by any source of heat.
• The entire cooling unit should project into the ventilation duct.

Cabinet and cavity guidance

• There must be free circulation of air around the cooling unit to prevent reduced cooling capacity and increased energy consumption.
• At the rear of the furniture, it is advised to cut a hole to maximise airflow.
• The outflow air vent must exit into free space in the room, not into an enclosed space such as a cupboard, case good or ceiling void.
• Never cover ventilation grills or slots.
