Installation options and planning

The appliance is suitable for surface installation with a visible edge or for flush installation. It can be snapped into the worktop from above. For each VL unit one remote fan unit is recommended. Vario cooktops such as the Vario electric grill and Vario gas wok should be placed between two VL units, and the maximum cooktop width between two VL units is 80 cm (except with the CX 482).

When combining several Vario appliances of the 400 series, a connection strip VA 420 must be placed between the appliances, with the type of strip depending on the installation. The bearing capacity and stability of the worktop, particularly thin worktops, must be supported with suitable substructures, taking into account the appliance weight and additional loads.

Flush installation notes

Flush installation is possible in worktops made of stone, synthetics or solid wood. Heat resistance and watertight sealing of the cut edges must be observed. For other materials, the worktop manufacturer should be consulted. The groove must be continuous and even so the appliance can be placed uniformly on the gasket; discontinuous lining should not be used. The joint width may vary due to size tolerances of the combinations and of the worktop cut-out.

Ventilation and safety considerations

For optimum performance in air recirculation mode, an outflow surface area of at least 400 cm² is recommended. If the unit is operated next to gas appliances, the air baffle AA 414 010 is recommended to ensure maximum performance of the cooktop.

When installing a ventilation hood with air extraction mode and a chimney-vented fireplace, the hood’s power supply line needs to feature a suitable safety switch.

Home Connect and networking

The product offers selected digital services via Gaggenau Home Connect, including cooktop-based ventilation control (with a suitable cooktop), remote control and monitoring, and remote diagnostics. Home network integration for digital services is possible via cable connection LAN (recommended) or wireless via WiFi. The availability of Home Connect functionality depends on the availability of Home Connect Services in the respective country.

A LAN cable should be planned for installation. Power consumption in standby with display off is 0.2 W. Instructions on how to switch off the WiFi module are provided in the user manual (not stated in source here).

Cleaning and maintenance

The large-scale metal grease filter and the enamelled ventilation grille are removable and dishwasher-safe, supporting straightforward cleaning. The appliance features saturation indicators for both the grease filter and the activated charcoal filter, signalling when maintenance is required.
